Cure for Type 1 Diabetes begins Phase ll Testing
Dr. Denise L. Faustman has announced that a possible cure for type 1 diabetes using an 80 year old very safe TB vaccine will begin trials in July, 2015.
Since 2001, Dr. Faustman has been working on this possible use for the alternative use of BCG an old and safe TB vaccine as a way to help regenerate pancreas beta cells and end type 1 diabetes.
Progress on the use of the vaccine has been aided and acclerated by research from other countries using results from her studies.
It is unfortunate that in the United States with its profit based pharmaceutical industry that support has not been forth coming.
Dr. Faustman and friends have raised 19 or the 25 million needed to begin the study…donations would be gratefully accepted as more funds are needed to conduct a full trial instead of the FDA approved mid-state trial that will begin in July, 2015.
Lee Iacocca and his foundation has been a strong supporter of this effort because Diabetes affected someone in his family.
I have been watching this study since 2012 and can’t believe how long it has taken to get this far.

This has been a long time coming! As I mentioned in another article I wrote several years ago, finding information about this research takes persistence. I couldn’t even find a mention of it on the American Diabetes Association website. Digging into a very few news articles I was able to track down the information that is included in the other article.
From what I have read recently, acceleration of the study and testing has been accomplished by dogged work by Dr. Faustman.
It would be a miracle if people with type 1 diabetes could be cured. Even with all the modern pumps and gadgets available, insulin dosage is still a hit and miss proposition.
Since needs are affected by many things, like the amount of exercise done, calories in foods consumed and the physical condition of each person, at best blood sugar readings give a close approximation and indicator of what might be needed.
Translate this into managing care for a 4 year old. You can see the problems that might cease to exist.
Support Dr. Faustman by visiting the facebook website and reading some of the information provided. It is revealing.
Here is a reference that validates her credentials in case you have a question.
